State govt to distribute 6L clay idols in Hyderabad for Ganesh Chaturthi

For Ganesh Chaturthi, which begins on August 31, the Telangana government is likely to promote eco-friendly idols. Several departments are preparing to distribute more than six lakh clay Ganesh idols in the city as well as set up 50 artificial ponds for the immersion of idols.

A total of four lakh clay idols will be distributed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) while one lakh idols will be distributed each by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPSCB).

The government departments will also build 50 more artificial ponds, in addition to the current 25 artificial ponds, across the city to facilitate idol immersion.

T Srinivas Yadav, the Telangana minister for animal husbandry, met on Tuesday to discuss festival arrangements, as he will announce Ganesh Chaturthi’s environmental conservation measures.

Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the State government was promoting the upcoming Ganesh festival as eco-friendly and encouraging people to use clay idols to reduce pollution.
