Stormwater drains planned in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: To make the flow of rainwater smooth in Hyderbad, The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) is focusing on stormwater drains and box drains and also started rebuilding of existing ones.

On August 25, 2017, about 12 cm rainfall has occurred for almost 3 hours which leads the entire Cyber Hills area flooded with water to the depth of 1 to 1.2 meters for an entire day. This was due to the poor carrying capacity of the drains.

By Addressing this issue GHMC has now improved the existing drains by constructing twin cell RCC box drains of size 2.3 height and width of 3 meters each to increase the carrying capacity of the water.

As a result, there is no overflow of water in the Cyber Hills colony during Monsoon Season. Similar RCC twin box drains were constructed on Barlakunta surplus Nala with a cost of Rs 4.1 crores.
