Amidst the pandemic, exams have taken a different turn altogether for both classes 10th and 12th. With exams being delayed multiple times because of the rising cases, the Supreme Court has received a petition for the cancellation.
Supreme Court Judge Requests Everyone to be Optimistic
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea on May 31 to cancel the Class 12th CBSE and ICSE exams amidst the second wave of the coronavirus across the nation. However, the bench comprising Justices A.M Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari has requested everyone to be optimistic. They said that they would be waiting for a resolution by Monday.

The bench has asked the petitioners to provide copies of the plea on the two boards (CBSE and ICSE) along with the central government. They said that they are waiting for the Central government to take the decision. Further noting that the CBSE would be announcing the schedule for the board exams by June 1, 2021.
Plea Requests Cancellation of Class XII Exams Instead of Objective Methodology
The petition was filed by the advocate Mamta Sharma who had urged the top court to make a decision to the boards and cancel the Class XII examinations. Boards have previously decided to develop an objective methodology to conduct the exams and declare the results within a specific time frame.
The plea said that the Covid 19 situation has become worse than last year. Following which, it requires the respondents to adopt the same criteria for assessment for the marks as last year.
Both CBSE and ICSE issued notice that the exams would be conducted once the situation gets better and data had not been specified. In challenging times like these, the plea said that the students shall not be subjected to uncertainty.
The plea further argued that during the emergency times and the rising number of the Covid 19 cases in the country, conducting exams in the upcoming weeks would not be possible. And the delay in examination is causing more losses to the students especially for the ones who are planning to study abroad.
