CBSE Cancels Class 10th Exams and Class 12th Exams Postponed

As per the latest update, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams for Class 10th have been cancelled. And the CBSE exams for Class 12th have been postponed for now.

 

Union Education Minister Announces CBSE Exams Update 

The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the CBSE Exams update on Wednesday. The decision to cancel the Class 10th exams and postpone the Class 12th exams comes after the sudden rise in Covid 19 cases across the country.

The decision was made in a meeting conducted in the morning today. It was chaired by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi after many students, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders demanded the exams to be cancelled.

Initially, the exams were scheduled to take place from May 4 to June 7, 2021. And the results were scheduled to be announced on July 15, 2021.

Nishank took to Twitter and said that “the Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board.”

He further said that if any candidate is not satisfied with the marks allocated to them with the pre-planned basis, they will be given an opportunity to have the conventional sit-in exams. But the examinations will be conducted when the conditions allow so.

Talking about the Class 12th exams (postponed), Nishank said that the exams for Class 12th will be conducted when the situations are stable. It will be reviewed on June 1 by the CBSE and the details will be shared accordingly. He assured that the students will get a notice of at least 15 days before the exams start.

PM Modi Stresses Student’s Health As Priority 

During the high-level meeting, chaired by Narendra Modi, he said that the health of the students is top priority for the country. He ensured that the Central Government will do everything to make sure that the CBSE will focus on the best interests of the students without harming their academic schedule.

This comes after many students, parents, and teachers demanded the exams to be cancelled as the Covid 19 cases were increasing across the country. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also requested the Centre to cancel the exams as the exams centres could become the major Covid 19 hubspots.

At the same time, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also stressed on considering the best interests of the students.
