Suryapeta Police Arrest Spurious Seeds Selling Gang

The Suryapeta police from the state today arrested a six-member gang involved in the sale of spurious seeds in order to cheat the farmers of the state. The police seized spurious and adulterated seeds worth Rs. 13.5 crore.

Speaking to media persons, Suryapet district collector Vinay Krishna Reddy and SP Bhaskaran said that the prime accused in the case was one M. Siva Reddy.

He set up a company by the name of Dwaraka in Vansthalipuram of the city. He worked in different seed companies in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh.

The collector said that the accused started selling the 15 different types of spurious seeds like chilly, tomato, lady’s finger, and watermelon to the gullible farmers of the state without any license and lot number.

He said that the police busted the racket after conducting a deep inquiry at Chintalapalem Mandal of the Suryapeta district. The accused has appointed dealers at Mahbubabad, Sujatha Nagar, Vatsavai, and Wyra to sell the spurious seeds.

The police have also arrested the regional manager of Dwaraka seeds Laxma Reddy, accountant Yadagiri and dealers Pratap Kumar, Ramama, and Jaganmohan Rao.
