Taliban Deputy PM And Haqqani Clash Over Afghanistan Cricket Board

The Taliban government in Afghanistan seems to be having trouble with the tussle in power. In the latest update, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Baradar and Interior Minister and Chief of Terror outfit Haqqani Network Siraudding Haqqani have gotten into another clash. However, this time it is about the control over the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

Afghanistan PM Replaces ACB Chairman

On Saturday, Haqqani received an order signed by the Prime Minister Mullah Hassan Akhand for replacing the current chairman of the ACB Azizulla Fazil with ex-Afghan cricketer Mirwais Ashraf with immediate effect. ACB officials have issued a notification regarding the same.

However, when the Haqqani appointed a new chairman Mirwais Ashraf went to the ACB office take charge. But the armed supporters of Baradar beat him up and didn’t allow him to continue his duties. Baradar’s men stormed the office, beat up the officials and also forced the staff of the board to delete all posts regarding the appointment.

Haqqanis Want To Control ACB

Azizullah Fazil was reappointed as the Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board by Mullah Baradar after the group captured the country. At that time, when Mullah Baradar was tipped to be the head of the Taliban’s new government. But the internal conflicts took a different turn during the formation of the government. And after being shot at by Haqqanis, Baradar fled to Kandahar.

Following which, Anas Haqqani, the younger brother of Sirajuddin Haqqani, was removed the executive director of Afghanistan’s cricket board, Hamid Shinwari and appointed his relative Naseebullah Haqqani.

This sent a clear message for Baradar that Haqqanis wanted to control the ACB.
