Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan today expressed concern over the children and students for not talking in Telugu and indulging in foreign culture. They must be taught and encouraged to say “Namaskaram” and talk in mother tongue and avoid foreign trends, he said.
Participating as the chief guest in the 14th convocation of Potti Sri Ramulu Telugu University conducted at Ravindra Bharathi here on Monday, the Governor expressed dismay that educational institutions were making money and unmindful of imparting quality education among children. While the families are completely split the children are on wrong path, he observed. The children, instead of talking in their mother tongue were indulging in “Hai” and “bye”.
The Governor recalled that in good old days, joint families encouraged children to talk in Telugu or mother tongue which is key in family affairs. Stating that even foreign countries like China, Russia and many other countries talk in their mother tongue, the Governor said, “We should encourage our children to talk in Telugu. Despite being a Tamilian, I talk in Telugu as my language Aravam could not be understood by others. I wonder as to why Goddess Saraswathi has turned out to be Goddess Lakshmi”, he said targeting the institutions which are trying to fleece parents in the name of fees in educational institutions.
The Governor appealed to the students of Telugu Varsity to adopt some villages and create awareness among people on hereditary assets like literature, culture, language, dance, music and arts. Students should turn to social service and develop colonies into clean under Swachch Abhiyan program. He also expressed surprise that the Indians are learning Yoga and Pranayama at the behest of America. “Instead of being told by foreigners, we can learn our own culture, Yoga and Pranayama which belong to India”, he said.
The Governor felicitated Prof Ravva Srihari and presented degrees to the students on the occasion. Education Principal Secretary Ranjiv Acharya, Vice Chancellor S V Satyanarayana, Registrar Alekhya Punjala, officials, staff and others were present. (NSS)
