In a move aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity for commuters, the Hyderabad Traffic Police announced that the Tarnaka junction will be reopened for vehicular movement on a trial basis. The reopening, scheduled from April 18 to May 2, comes as a welcome relief for daily commuters traveling between Osmania University and Lalapet.
This trial run is expected to streamline vehicular flow in the bustling areas of Tarnaka, Habsiguda, Lalapet, and Mettuguda, offering much-needed convenience to residents and office-goers who frequently navigate these routes.
Routes Allowed During Trial:
- From Osmania University: Vehicles can now proceed straight towards Lalapet and also take a right turn towards Habsiguda.
- From Lalapet: Commuters will be permitted to travel straight towards Osmania University and take a right turn towards Mettuguda.
Restrictions in Place:
- From Mettuguda: Vehicles will not be allowed to take a direct right turn towards Osmania University. Instead, they must proceed straight towards the HUDA Complex, take a U-turn, and then a left at Tarnaka to reach Osmania University.
- From Habsiguda: Right turns towards Lalapet are not permitted. Vehicles should continue straight towards IRISET, take a U-turn, and then a left at Tarnaka junction to access Lalapet.

The traffic police emphasized that these temporary measures are designed to assess traffic flow patterns and reduce bottlenecks. They have urged citizens to co-operate during the 15-day trial period.
“Public cooperation is key to ensuring a smooth transition. These changes are being implemented to provide better ease of movement for all road users,” said a senior traffic official.
With the re-opening of this key junction, commuters can expect shorter travel times and reduced detours, particularly during peak hours. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Hyderabad Traffic Police to modernize traffic management and enhance commuter convenience across the city.
