Telangana: 120 students fall ill after having lunch in Siddipet

Approximately 120 minority residential girls high school students in Siddipet fell ill on Monday evening. Most of them were taken to the government hospital for treatment.

It had been reported that some students started vomiting and having loose motions after lunch in the afternoon. They kept the issue a secret for some time and tried to bury it. Students were shifted to the government hospital for treatment, however, as the situation grew out of control.

Upon learning of the incident, Finance and Health Minister T. Harish Rao instructed the hospital authorities to treat the students well. The Minister was informed that all students were in good health and no concerns were present.

The principal said that approximately 100 students complained of abdominal pain, loose motions, and vomiting. By evening, almost everyone had recovered with the support of doctors from the health department at the hostel.

According to the principle, there is no reason to panic. Only five students still have mild abdominal pains, she said

The Minister had directed the school authorities to report the food poisoning, he appealed to parents not to worry about the students’ health as all of them are safe and sound.

As directed by Harish Rao, officials of the Minority Welfare Department investigated the incident that took place on Monday afternoon and identified those accountable. Regional Coordinator, Telangana Minorities Residential Schools, B Narasimha Rao, said the chicken soup prepared for children on Sunday morning was served for lunch.

According to him, the soup was served to some students again and they fell ill after eating it. The Telangana Minorities Residential Schools secretary has already been notified of the report.

Following this report, Dr. Rao explained that the school suspended the principal and removed the deputy warden, cooks, and the rest of the outsourced staff.
