Telangana Aims to Provide LPG Cylinders at Rs 500 Within 100 Days

Telangana’s Congress-led government is determined to implement two critical schemes—providing LPG cylinders for Rs 500 and offering farmers an additional Rs 500 per quintal for paddy procurement—within the first 100 days of its tenure, Minister for Civil Supplies N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced on Tuesday.

Following a full review meeting with senior department officials, Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy addressed reporters, emphasizing the need of implementing these welfare initiatives. He voiced alarm about the civil supply corporation’s rising financial burden, stating that total loans had reached Rs 56,000 crore due to the previous BRS government’s failure to give financial help. The interest component had climbed to Rs 3,000 crore on its own.

Furthermore, Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that a significant amount of 8.8 million tonnes of paddy, worth Rs 18,000 crore and belonging to the corporation, was currently with millers. He stressed the lack of security or bank guarantee from them, leading the Chief Minister to review the matter. During the future cabinet meetings, an informed decision is expected.

Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy acknowledged structural inadequacies under the BRS rule during the previous nine and a half years, emphasizing the necessity for urgent and decisive action to solve these difficulties.

Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy underlined the importance of reaching beneficiaries, particularly those living below the poverty line, and stated that rice provided through the Public Distribution System should reach all qualified individuals expeditiously. Both the state and central governments are investing Rs 39 per kg of rice sent to individuals living below the poverty line, indicating that the Congress-led administration prioritizes the effective and transparent delivery of basics.
