Telangana- Ambulance crew steal 2 kg 30 tolas gold from injured victim

While healthcare and frontline workers often work tirelessly for saving the lives of people, some try to take advantage of the sensitive situation for money. In a similar incident, the ambulance crew who was saving the injured after an accident occurred in Telangana, stole 2 kg and 30 tolas gold from one of the victims, Rambabu, after finding it on his body.  

The robbery took place on Tuesday when 3 jewelers hailing from Andhra Pradesh were on their way to Telangana to supply their gold to dealers and jewelry stores here. However, the 3- Kotha Rambabu, Kotha Srinivas, and Gunda Santosh- met with an accident on the journey from Guntur district. They had a total of 5 kg and 60 tolas gold with them.

The accident occurred at the railway over-bridge close to Ramagundam Mandal’s Malyalapalli in the early hours of Tuesday. While Srinivas died on the spot, Rambabu and Santosh suffered critical injuries and were rushed to the hospital via 2 different ambulances.

Santosh was being shifted to the hospital by Chand, the emergency technician, and Rajender, the ambulance driver. They found one kg gold on him and immediately gave it to Ramagundam’s Senior Inspector Shailaja.

However, Rambaba was getting shifted in a separate ambulance from Kamanpur to Godavarikhani hospitalEMT Tajuddin found 2 packets of gold on Rambabu’s body and took it to the driver of the ambulance, G Laxma Reddy, while performing first aid. On mutual understanding, the two decided to share it equally amongst themselves while the victim was taking his last breath. After this, they gave the body to the hospital. 

The two robbers, Tajuddin and Laxma Reddy were brought in front of reporters on Wednesday by V Satyanarayana, the Commissioner of Police when they told the whole episode to them.

The rest 2 kg were found near the accident site itself.  

The incident was brought to light after the victims’ family members registered a complaint with the police regarding the missing gold post the accident. This resulted in the arrest of both the ambulance crewmen. The cops recovered a total of 2 kg and 30 tolas of gold from the two.
