Telangana assembly elections: BJP aims to increase online presence

As the BJP strives to gain power in Telangana, it is using WhatsApp to formulate opinions in its favor. Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled to take place next year, and the party plans to fight the election digitally.

BJP officials have taken control of the state information technology cell after being disappointed with the party’s social media status, according to reliable sources. This is approximately three times more than the current number of WhatsApp groups. The initial goal is to form 10,000 WhatsApp groups. As the election draws closer, these sources expect the target to increase.

As of now, the BJP runs several pages on Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. There are a number of pages gaining traction in Telangana, such as the Telangana Atma Gouravam. Local IT cell workers will regularly interact with the national-level social media heads, according to sources. The national team maintains a parallel social media presence.

Videos of BJP leaders’ speeches and the party’s messages in real-time will be shared by the party on WhatsApp, which will help build the narrative and form opinions. Booth-level workers and the head of the IT department will manage WhatsApp groups.

To spread its narrative in Telangana, the BJP will use Telugu and other languages. BJP’s national IT heads shall be in charge of the Telugu IT Cell of the state.

BJP plans to replicate Bandi Sanjay’s padayatra in other states

As the BJP high command was impressed by the response to Bandi Sanjay’s padayatra in Telangana, it has encouraged its state units to follow suit.

According to highly-placed sources, the move is part of the party’s attempt to expand its outreach in states by replicating successful programs after its national executive meeting (NEC) in Hyderabad.

It has also been recommended that party units in other states follow the Telangana model when it comes to assembly segment activities.

To select candidates, Telangana state authorities have been told to follow the Goa model, focusing on winnability.
