Telangana does not yet have access to Vande Bharat train

Telangana has been demanding a high-speed train connecting Hyderabad to other metro areas in the country for quite some time. Despite talk of a bullet train connecting Hyderabad with Bengaluru or Mumbai, the plan is still on paper.

Other States, especially those that are poll-bound, are receiving the high-speed Vande Bharat Express trains in the meantime.

The Vande Bharat Express, a semi-high-speed train that travels at 180kmph, will make its southern debut on November 10 on the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru route. The Telangana government has repeatedly requested the union government to sanction a bullet train to Hyderabad.

It had requested the Indian Railways to sanction one bullet train and even opposition party leaders including Nalgonda MP Uttam Kumar Reddy urged the Centre to do so. The BJP government did not consider a single appeal.

According to the National Railway Plan (NRP), a corridor was proposed between Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Apart from this, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited had reportedly floated tenders for the preparation of a detailed project report for the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad bullet train.

However, little progress has been made in this area. The Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy recently repeated the old story that Ashwini Vaishnav promised to start new Vande Bharat trains between Hyderabad and Tirupati or Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada.

Meanwhile, on November 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Vande Bharat Express on the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru route.

This will be the fifth Vande Bharat Express, which will cover 483 kilometers. The catch is that the third and fourth Vande Bharat Express trains were recently launched in poll-bound Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Elections are also due in Karnataka next year.

Interestingly, while the Vande Bharat trains are said to have a Train Collision Avoidance System called KAVACH, the ones that have been released thus far have made headlines for all the wrong reasons. First, the New Delhi – Varanasi semi-high-speed train experienced technical problems, causing delays. Despite the fact that railway officials worked for five hours to resolve the issues, passengers were eventually accommodated on the Shatabdi Express.

Then there have been several reports of Vande Bharat Express trains colliding with cattle and causing damage.
