Telangana Floods: Cremation Dilemma

The family of a 90-year-old widow who died in Burgampad Mandal was devastated by the massive floods produced by persistent rains in Telangana last week. With the cremation sites in the Kothagudem district’s Bhadrachalam and Manugur villages flooded under flooding, her family was forced to cremate her body on the roadway.

Mudigonda Tirupatamma, the dead, died on Sunday at her house owing to sickness. Floods produced by torrential rains in the state had submerged numerous communities on the banks of the Godavari River, causing a number of concerns, including the submergence of cremation grounds on river banks.

Cremation of the deceased is prohibited outside of authorized areas, according to conventional practice. However, because the cremation grounds were under water and dry wood was unavailable, the family faced a tough position in executing the deceased’s funeral rites.

Other locals rushed out to help and support the family after seeing their suffering. Given the difficult circumstances produced by the torrential rains and drowned cremation grounds, they finished the final rituals for Mudigonda Tirupatamma on the highway.

The episode emphasizes the devastating impact of floods on communities living in flood-prone locations, as well as the difficulties they experience in carrying out traditional practices during such disasters. People in many sections of Telangana have suffered greatly as a result of the floods, and authorities are coordinating relief and reconstruction efforts to assist those affected by the natural calamity.
