Telangana Health Department advises people to take all COVID-19 measures

Telangana Health Department has advised the people to take all COVID-19 measures as the fourth wave of COVID-19 is very likely to affect the state in the near future.

A warning regarding the COVID-19 fourth wave has been issued to the citizens of Telangana by the state’s health department following an increase in COVID-19 cases in Delhi.

Public Health Director of the state, G Srinivas Rao, has urged people over 60 to take the booster dose.

He said Telangana should take precautions to avoid what is happening in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. All eligible individuals should receive vaccines as soon as they are due, Rao added

Hundreds of marriages take place in April-June, so people should be cautious during that time. People travel long distances and spend time with their families and friends during the summer. Therefore, it is important to adopt appropriate COVID behaviour, such as wearing a mask in crowded places, he explained.

He noted that the R-value in Telangana was 0.5%, compared to 1% in Delhi, and cited polls that did not predict a fourth wave of the epidemic. Keeping social distance and wearing a face mask is key to preventing infections in Telangana, he said.

R-value is a form of the mathematical notation used to track a virus and predict its spread in a particular area. In addition, he said that people need to drink at least 2.5 to 5 litres of water a day to stay hydrated, given the rising temperature during the day here.

COVID-19 measures include:

  1. Get a booster dose if you are over 60 years old.
  2. Vaccinations are highly recommended for individuals over the age of 12 who have not yet received them.
  3. Social distance should be maintained at all times.
  4. Use a face mask when going out.
  5. Frequently wash your hands.
  6. Make sure to use a hand sanitiser.
