Telangana mandates biometric attendance for students, staff

As per the latest reports, the government of Telangana has mandated that all higher education institutions in the state implement Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance for students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

In a memo issued on October 12, Vakati Karuna, the secretary (higher education), stated that biometric attendance is now made mandatory for all universities, government colleges, and aided and unaided private colleges.

The memo requested that the Commissioner of Collegiate Education take the necessary steps to put in place the Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system. It will be used to calculate attendance for students in order to promote them to higher classes, as well as for their e-pass scholarship and fee reimbursement, among other things.

Reports said that the system will be utilized to calculate the duty period of staff — both teaching and non-teaching — as well as for calculating their leaves and for career advancement schemes. The memo was labeled “most urgent.”

One crore voter IDs linked to Aadhar in state

According to Vikas Raj, Chief Electoral Officer, one crore Telangana voters voluntarily chose to link their voter cards with Aadhar, setting a national milestone.

He stated that linking voter cards with Aadhaar began on August 1, 2022, and that it elicited a strong response in all 119 constituencies across the state. The CEO praised SHGs for their contributions to meeting the target.

Previously, the CEO met with the GHMC Commissioner, Collectors of Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Hyderabad, GHMC EROs, and SVEEP Nodal Officers, and instructed them to actively participate in Voter-Aadhaar linkage, SVEEP activities, and Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls.

He directed the District Collectors to exercise caution and make sure that they did not disclose the Aadhaar details of the electors.  He stated that the SSR’s pre-revision activities would be continued till November 9, 2022.
