Telangana Monsoon Set to Commence on June 6

The Indian Meteorological Department in Hyderabad issued a forecast on Sunday predicting thunderstorms with occasional intense spells in the city. For other districts of Telangana, the weather department anticipated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls.

In anticipation of thunderstorms in all zones of Hyderabad – including Charminar, Khairathabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally – as well as other parts of the State, the department issued a yellow alert. While the yellow alert in Hyderabad is effective for Sunday, June 4, and June 5, it extends to other districts of Telangana until June 6.

Hyderabad, having recently experienced intense summer heat, is expected to transition into the rainy season soon. According to the IMD’s forecast, the monsoon is likely to reach Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana after June 6. Typically, the rainy season in Hyderabad lasts from mid-June to October, offering relief from the summer heat.

As the IMD predicts the timely arrival of monsoon in Hyderabad, residents anticipate much-needed relief. K Nagaratna, Head of the IMD Hyderabad, stated, “Rain is expected in districts including Hyderabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, and other Telangana districts. Monsoon will arrive from June 6, ushering in heavy rainfall.” Due to the anticipated rainfall, temperatures are projected to decrease by 2-3°C, providing a temporary respite from the prevailing heat.

The yellow alert, indicating light to moderate rains, will remain in place in Hyderabad until June 6. Advisories for restricted movement have been issued. Water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas is anticipated in several locations, potentially causing traffic congestion. Residents are advised to stay informed with weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the anticipated heavy rains.

Telangana weather expert T Balaji remarked, “Storms have intensified, covering areas from Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Siddipet to Jangaon, Hanmakonda, Warangal, Mulugu. Hyderabad is experiencing scattered intense storms. Consider this as a prelude; brace yourselves for tonight’s main event.”
