Reservations are made available to ensure that all communities are better represented in education and employment. TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao promised Muslims 12% reservation in education and employment after the formation of Telangana state, but no practical steps have been taken to fulfill that promise.
On the other hand, the united Andhra Pradesh’s 4% reservation for Muslims appears to be under threat. Although the case is still before the Supreme Court, the implementation of reservation in education and employment is still going on.
The government has announced a roster points system to fill more than 80000 vacancies in various departments. However, only 3% of the reservations have been added to the roster. Muslim reservations in the roster points released for direct recruitment were reduced from 4% to 3% under the Telangana State and Subordinate Service Rules 1996.
Since the government does not appear to be in favor of 4% representation for Muslims, only 3% reservations were included in the roster points.
Former minister Muhammad Ali Shabbir wrote to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, and the government responded in a vague manner.
Despite the fact that the explanation did not name any officers or departments, the statement was later confirmed by the Chief Secretary’s office. The Chief Secretary, who is in charge of administration, has stated that Muslim reservations, namely BC-E mentioned at 19, 44, 69 and 94th position in the 100-point roster.
Despite the Chief Secretary’s explanation, no changes to the roster points have been made to date. If the roster point error was corrected, the Chief Secretary should have made the revised points available to the public. According to reports, the Minority Welfare Department has yet to receive a copy of the revised roster points.

Even the TRS minority leaders in the government did not ask the Chief Secretary for an explanation on this issue. Somesh Kumar declined to comment further on the matter, only stating that the government has added 4% reservation to the roster points.
To date, it has not been revealed who was responsible for reducing the 3% reservation or why the new roster points have not been released, even if the error has indeed been corrected. Senior officials of the Minority Welfare Department made the roster points expressed ignorance and stated that they had not received any message from the Chief Secretary’s office. If the corrections are not made, a large number of Muslim candidates will be disadvantaged.
BC-E is mentioned in the roster points system at 19th, 45th, and 94th, but BC-B is added at 69th. To protect the 4% Muslim reservations in the Supreme Court, a revised roster points table should be issued.
