Telangana has witnessed the prices of tomatoes and broiler chicken reaching an all-time high. Approximately 80 to 90 rupees are spent on tomatoes per kilogram, and around 310 to 320 rupees are spent on chicken per kilogram.
In Telangana, tomato cultivation has decreased due to the summer season. Wholesale tomatoes used to be delivered in 9000 boxes weighing 2.25 lakh kilos at first. However, the quantity has now been reduced to 3,000 boxes.
Because of a shortage, this popular vegetable was once sold between Rs 15 and 20 per kilogram but now costs between Rs 80 and Rs 90 per kilogram. A mere 30% of tomatoes are grown in Nizamabad’s Ankapur. Five months ago, chicken prices were Rs 80 and Rs 125, but now the price is Rs 500 per kilo including boneless chicken, which is clearly out of reach for the average person.
The prices of broiler chicken usually increase during the summer months, but this year’s price increase has been particularly significant. The cost of feed has also gone up, while the demand has been strong, causing chicken prices to rise.
In addition to an increase in poultry feed prices, production costs also increased, causing prices throughout the state to rise.

As inflation bites, portions of food shrink
No one is spared from food inflation. Having seen the effects, there are now only two idlis per plate once again in Lodhi Gardens in Delhi, where there were three idlis a while back. An eatery called Rolls & Grills in Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh has temporarily shut down.
Food portions are also shrinking in Hyderabad restaurants and food carts alike. At Banjara Hills, you can find an excellent example of this in a cafe attached to open space. Since the cost of the food item has not changed, curries are served in conical bowls instead of squat ones.
