Telangana records 43 degrees Celsius on Sunday as mercury levels spike

Only two days into April, the mercury in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana has reached exceedingly high levels.

On Sunday, the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) weather stations in Hyderabad at Bahadurpura recorded possibly this summer season’s highest daytime temperature of 42.1 degrees Celsius.

In several districts of Telangana, the temperature reached 43 degrees Celsius. The maximum daytime temperature recorded today at Alampur in Jogulamba Gadwal was 43.1 degrees Celsius, while temperatures were hovering between 41 and 42 degrees Celsius in several places in Nalgonda.

Apart from Bahadurpura, temperatures in most GHMC areas on Sunday remained just below 39 degrees Celsius. In Hyderabad, Khairatabad, Saidabad, and Rajendranagar recorded maximum temperatures of just over 38 degrees Celsius, while Uppal and Borabanda recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius.

In districts, Alampur on Sunday recorded a maximum of 42.1 degree Celsius followed by several parts of Nalgonda that recorded daytime temperature between 41 degree Celsius and 42 degree Celsius. Day time temperatures also crossed 40 degrees Celsius in districts include Wanaparthy, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Relief expected in coming days

People in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana can expect some relief from the dry and hot weather that has been prevailing for the past few days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad issued a yellow alert on Sunday indicating thundershowers and lightening not only in Hyderabad but across Telangana till April 7.

The yellow alert warns of possible severe weather conditions in the form of thundershowers and severe lightening for farmers and people in general to plan their week accordingly.
