The Telangana State Archives and Research Institute will soon launch a digital library that will make archives available to students, research scholars, historians, and history enthusiasts at the click of a button.
To begin, former Hyderabad Secretariat files from 1896, GAD, Home departmental records from 1890 to 1947, and Persian records from 1880-1880, land grants transactions, and Army records from the Nizam period will be made available in the digital library. Following that, the digital library will house a staggering 1.55 lakh historical records from the Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb periods.
At first, the Institute will make archival content available as reference material in the digital library, and a photocopy of the material will be provided with user charges upon request. The Institute is developing a new website for this initiative. The user ID and password will be required to access the digital library.
Enthusiasts and academics should register with the Institute and then receive a user ID and password to access the content. The Institute had already begun digitizing the records for this digital library. Following digitization, a catalog for each record is created and hosted in the digital library. Over 25,000 records have been successfully digitized by the Institute so far.

The Institute has conserved and preserved a treasure trove of over 43 million documents, including the country’s second oldest record—a Farman of Firoz Shah Bahmani of the Bahmani Sultanate in the 14th century. The Farman, dated May 14, 1406 AD, was written in Persian and granted land to Moulana Muhammad Qazi as ‘inam’.
90 percent of the 43 million documents were in Persian and Urdu. The Institute will open its revamped archival museum in a few months. The museum will display the country’s second oldest document, as well as 200 other significant records.
