The South Central Railways (SCR) has announced an ambitious redevelopment plan for 38 railway stations across Telangana under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with a significant budget allocation of ₹1,830.4 crores. Among the notable projects is the transformation of the Cherlapally railway station into a satellite terminal, which will receive ₹430 crores for its development.
The SCR aims to enhance passenger experience by providing comfort and world-class facilities at these stations. The modernization efforts are designed to turn railway stations into growth centers for local communities, ensuring that the benefits of development extend beyond just transportation.
In 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for these major projects, with the completion of the upgrades expected by February 2024. The plans include significant improvements at the Secunderabad station and the Cherlapally terminal, which are crucial for easing congestion in the region.

The redevelopment plan encompasses a wide range of enhancements, including facade improvements, better pedestrian pathways, expanded parking facilities, improved lighting, local art displays, and the introduction of greenery. Key facilities such as high-rise platforms, spacious waiting halls, and enhanced public announcement systems are also prioritized to ensure a seamless travel experience for passengers.
The SCR emphasizes that these stations will function as city centers, facilitating smooth traffic flow and connectivity for commuters. Development work is already underway, with Kachiguda and Lingampally stations currently undergoing feasibility studies to assess the scope of their respective upgrades.
This transformative initiative reflects the SCR’s commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure in Telangana and enhancing the overall travel experience for millions of passengers, while simultaneously promoting local economic growth.
