Telangana’s electric vehicle sector is thriving

Telangana’s electric vehicle sector is gaining momentum as many EV companies enter the state. The state government has signed agreements with five electric vehicle companies to set up their manufacturing units in 2021-2022 (with a total investment of Rs 5147 crore).

EV companies, regardless of size, can thrive in Telangana thanks to the ‘Electric vehicle and Energy Storage policy’.

The EV policy was initiated to promote the use of electric vehicles and set up infrastructure in the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

Increasing petrol prices and climate change are pushing up demand for electric vehicles across the globe, so the Telangana government is focusing on making Telangana a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

As part of the policy, the state government provides subsidies, incentives, and support for infrastructure and manufacturing. Electric vehicles are eligible for special power tariffs, tax and registration fee exemptions to a certain extent, discounted interest rates, and state transportation departments are encouraged to purchase electric buses.

In Telangana, the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd (TSREDCO) is setting up charging stations and battery stations. Currently, numerous charging stations have been established, and the network will be expanded as needed.

Telangana’s government is encouraging electronic vehicles and providing incentives to those who purchase them.

To encourage the use of electric vehicles, the state government is establishing charging stations on a large scale throughout the state.

According to the Managing Director of TS Redco, the state is seeing a significant increase in the sale of electric vehicles. Currently, over 10,000 electric vehicles are on city streets.

The government intends to build charging stations every 25 kilometers along national highways.

By the end of December, Greater Hyderabad will have 600 charging stations. This will bring the total number of charging stations in the state to 1000.
