Residents in the outskirts of Manipur’s Bishnupur and Imphal East districts took precautionary measures on Friday night, switching off their lights in response to multiple drone sightings. This precautionary action followed recent incidents where militants employed drones to drop bombs in nearby locations within Imphal West district.
The heightened security situation has led to increased vigilance by security forces, who are on high alert in peripheral areas. They are closely monitoring the movement of large groups of people to prevent further violence and maintain public safety.
In Bishnupur district, the situation was further compounded by the firing of illumination rounds into the sky, which added to the growing panic and confusion among residents. It remains uncertain whether these rounds were discharged by security forces or other individuals.

In response to the escalating violence, security forces have taken decisive action by destroying three bunkers in the neighboring Churachandpur district. According to a statement from Manipur police, militants used long-range rockets to target civilian areas in Bishnupur district, resulting in the death of one senior citizen and injuries to six others.
The ongoing violence and the use of drones and rockets have significantly heightened tensions in the region, leading to increased security measures and a state of alert among the local population.
