Hyderabad: The 11th edition of Six Day Monsoon Regatta National Championship powered by Hyderabad Marriott Hotels concluded here in the city on Sunday evening.
Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, Govt of Telangana, Arjun Awardee Telangana Sailing Association President, Gen KS Rao, Brig Jagdish Singh, Suheim Sheikh, President YCH—Yacht Club of Hyderabad; International Judge Mark Pryke graced the closing function and gave away prizes to the victorious sailors.
Speaking on the occasion Arvind Kumar in response to the observation made by International Judge Mark Pryke said, yes, you can not drink water in the lake. But, we will improve the quality of the water in the Hussain Sagar lake. I would like to join one day with you and would like to learn sailing from you said Arvind Kumar. It is very happy moment to know that more and more Government School kids are getting into sailing, he added.
Addressing the young sailors Gen KS Rao said Sailing is a good sport. It improves one’s self confidence both in and off the water. A race is never last till it is won. And remember no two races are the same. Thanks to the effort of YCH and its founder Suheim Sheikh, now sailing is spreading very fast in the state. And he urged everyone present to contribute for the Swachch Hussain Sagar.
International Judge Mark Pryke speaking on the occasion said he had lovely time. Though you can’t drink water in the lake, I enjoyed everything here, he said
Preeti Kongari recorded three big wins. Sailor of Yacht Club of Hyderabad (YCH) she lifts two Champion Trophies in Optimist Main Fleet Category. One as overall Trophy Optimist Girls Champion and the other one is Overall Trophy Optimist Champion and Best Sailor Without Discard
K Rajeshwari became Champion in Optimist Light Fleet Debutants Category and lifted the trophy for the same.
In Optimist Light Fleet Category Mounika of Yacht Club of Hyderabad(YCH) bagged Overall Trophy Optimist Light Fleet- Girls Championship and Somnath Rathod of YCH emerged Champion in boys section.
In Optimist Green Fleet, Peerampalli Supriya of YCH adjudged as Champion in Girls section and Nikhil Mandavkar of CESE in boys section. They both are given away Overall Trophy Optimist Green Fleet.
Mala Vennela of YCH got Gold Medal as Most Promising Girl and Sravan Kathravath of YCH Most Promising Boy. Peerampalli Supriya and Praveen Ramavath awarded gold medals as Best Sailors without discard. They both belong to YCH.
The Regatta saw a national record of 131 young sailors battling it out to be the National Champion. For the first time, the Regatta had an International Jury Chaired by Mark Pryke of Australia a renowned International Judge. (NSS)
