The ‘Battle of Wakf Board’ is over, controversy over ‘Chief Post’ still alive

In a high volume and nerve straining ‘Battle of Telangana State Wakf Board,’ a total number of six members was finally elected on Monday with three entrants appeared as new faces in an 11 member’s body.

To elect the Board members for yet another term, polling was held today that saw the election of a sitting member Akbar Nizamuddin, Moulana Abul Fatah Sayyad Bandagi Badshah Quadri, custodian of (Sajjada Nasheen) Dargah Hazrath Bandagi Badshah Quadri, Balkonda Shareef, Nizamabad from Mutawalli category and Zakir Hussain Javid advocate under Bar Council quota.

It is said that as per the rule, the Wakf Board is liable to conduct the election only to elect six members from its side while the remaining five seats are categorised as nominated posts liable to be filled by the government of Telangana directly.

Out of the six posts, three have already been filled unanimously under MP, MLA and MLC quota while the polling has been conducted today to elect the remaining three members.

Apart from the newly elected members, three more members such as Asad Owaisi from MP quota, Kousar Mohiuddin from MLA Quota and Farooq Hussain from MLC quota were already declared elected unanimously given the absence of any suitable contender to contest against them.

However, if the officials are to be believed, the remaining five nominated posts will be filled soon by the government itself.

Among the six elected members of the Wakf Board, Moulana Abul Fatah Bandagi Badshah, the Sajjada Nasheen Dargah Hazrath Bandagi Badshah, Balkonda Shareef, Kousar Mohiuddin from MLA Quota and Farooq Hussain from MLC quota are new faces in the board.

Thought Moulana Abul Fatah Bandagi Badshah might not viewed as a familiar face in the board earlier unlike the case of other members, but his rigorous efforts to take the issues of custodians of the shrines to the corridor of powers besides raising the issues of imams and muezzins of the mosques in the city has helped him gain steam among the community that has finally resulted into his election as a new face of the Wakf body.

Though the election process has formally concluded today, the controversy remain surrounds over the election of a suitable person for the post of the chairman that otherwise dubbed as a ‘crown of thorns’ as the Wakf Board of Telangana arguably considered as one of the most controversial Muslim institution of the country. This owing to brazen level of discrepancies in the body that facing myriad number of litigations and encroachments over the properties that was solely consecrated for the welfare of the Muslim community.
