Commuters in Hyderabad faced traffic disruptions due to ongoing sewage repair work by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) at Old Malakpet. The Hyderabad Traffic Police has issued an official traffic advisory urging motorists to avoid the affected stretch until further notice.
According to the advisory, the issue arose following heavy sewage water leakage near Akbar Plaza in Old Malakpet. The leakage has led to significant waterlogging and damage to the road surface, severely affecting the flow of traffic from Chaderghat to Nalgonda X Roads. The HMWS&SB has begun emergency repair work to resolve the problem, but until the work is completed, traffic movement is expected to remain sluggish.
The traffic police have requested commuters heading from Chaderghat towards Dilsukhnagar to take alternate routes to avoid getting stuck in long delays. Traffic personnel have been deployed in the area to regulate the movement of vehicles and guide motorists.

The statement issued by the police read:
“Due to the heavy sewage water leakage at Akbar Plaza, Old Malakpet, and ongoing repair works by HMWS&SB, there is a slow movement of traffic from Chaderghat to Nalgonda X Roads. Hence, the commuters coming from Chaderghat towards Dilsukhnagar are requested to avoid the road and to take alternate routes till completion of the work.”
Local residents and daily commuters have expressed concern over the condition of the roads and the inconvenience caused. Several vehicles were seen navigating through waterlogged patches, increasing the risk of accidents and breakdowns.
The HMWS&SB officials have assured that the repair work is being carried out on a priority basis and that normalcy will be restored at the earliest. Meanwhile, the traffic police have advised commuters to check traffic updates and plan their journeys accordingly.
This development comes amid frequent complaints of outdated drainage infrastructure in parts of the city, especially during the onset of pre-monsoon showers. Civic authorities have been urged to undertake preventive maintenance to avoid such disruptions in the future.
