TRS MLAs poaching case: SIT summons Kerala doctor for questioning

The Telangana police Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the sensational MLA poaching case has summoned Kerala doctor Jaggu Swami and BDJS president Tushar Vellapally for questioning.

Tushar Vellapally is the president of the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), while Jaggu Kottilil, alias Jaggu Swami, works at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi.

According to sources, they have been summoned to the SIT for questioning regarding their alleged connections with the three accused arrested in the case last month.

To expedite the investigation, the SIT served notices on two men from Kerala under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code. The duo has been summoned to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the Police Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad on November 21.

After a five-day investigation in Kerala, a team led by Nalgonda district superintendent of police Rema Rajeshwari, a member of the SIT, served the notices.

Tushar’s house in Alappuzha was served with notice. Tushar, whose BDJS is a BJP ally in Kerala, was not at home.

Tushar, who ran against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Wayanad, was mentioned in a conversation the three accused had with four Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLAs while attempting to entice them to defect.

The notice was posted at Jaggu Swami’s office and home, who is reported to be absconding. The police team was in Kerala to question him after Ramachandra Bharati, the main accused, allegedly admitted that Jaggu Swami was involved in the cash promised to TRS MLAs as an inducement.

Although the police team did not find Jaggu, they did seize some incriminating material from his home and office. His three associates were also questioned by officials.

The SIT has also served a notice to Bhusarapu Srinivas, a Karimnagar lawyer who is said to be a distant relative of Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay. The investigation team has ordered him to appear in court on November 21 for questioning.

Srinivas allegedly paid for the flight expenses for Simhayaji, one of the three accused. According to the CrPC Section 41 notice to the advocate, the officials have “reasonable grounds to question him to ascertain facts and circumstances in relation to the investigation,” and he has been summoned to appear before the officials.

The advocate was also asked to bring his mobile phone for questioning without tampering with or deleting information from the device, as well as any other electronic devices he owns, such as a laptop or tablet.

Ramachandra Bharati, alias Satish Sharma, Simhayaji, and Nandakumar were apprehended by Cyberabad police from a farmhouse in Moinabad near Hyderabad on the night of October 26 while allegedly attempting to lure four TRS MLAs with large sums of money.

The raid was carried out by Cyberabad police following a tip from Pilot Rohit Reddy, one of the MLAs. He claimed that the accused offered him Rs 100 crore and Rs 50 crore to three others.
