TRS stages protest on national highways over paddy procurement issue

In response to the paddy procurement issue, the TRS ministers, MLAs, leaders, and workers staged a rasta roko on the national highways on Wednesday.

As per the call of KT Rama Rao, the TRS working president and IT minister, rasta roko was held. The rasta roko is an agitation that is being conducted as part of a series of protests aimed at persuading the Centre to buy paddy from farmers in the State.

Several places linking the national highways were used for the rasta roko, including Patancheru, Natirekal, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy, etc. The rasta roko in Mahabubnagar was led by Minister V Srinivas Goud. Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao criticized the Central government for the paddy procurement issue on April 2.

KTR said that BJP leaders in the State and at the Centre are causing confusion among farmers in the State. As an example, he stated that Union Minister G Kishan Reddy indicates that the Centre will procure the paddy, whereas Union Minister Piyush Goyal suggests that the Centre will only buy the raw rice from farmers.

He said that it is the responsibility of the Centre to purchase paddy from Telangana. On the paddy purchase issue, he criticized BJP leaders in the State for playing politics, adding that the Central government is anti-people.

He recalled the Minister’s meeting with Union Minister Piyush Goyal regarding the issue. We have asked the Central government about their position on paddy procurement, he added.
