TRS to retain power in State after Assembly elections: Surveys

According to multiple surveys conducted across Telangana by different organizations, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi) is set for a resounding victory and to retain power in the State after the Assembly elections in 2023.

Surveys conducted shortly after the TRS’s victory in the Munugode bypoll, in which it received a 10,000-plus vote majority, indicated that the party would win more than 100 seats in the 119-seat Assembly. In these, the party would receive more than 35% of the vote in 94 seats, while TRS candidates would receive more than 50% of the vote in at least 40 constituencies. The party would receive 30% of the vote above in 16 seats.

With the survey indicating that AIMIM would also win seven seats, the TRS would again have a two-thirds majority and would easily retain power, according to five different surveys.

While polls suggested that the BJP would win five to six seats, the most intriguing result was that polls predicted that the Congress would finish in a distant second place across the state. Despite receiving only nominal vote shares, the BJP would be relegated to third place in all seats except those where they had a chance of winning.

According to sources, the surveys were conducted in two formats: one in which different segments of the public were asked for their thoughts on the TRS, and the second in which a candidate-specific questionnaire was distributed in each constituency. While the responses indicated that all of the Ministers would win with large majorities, there was more support for the party, with almost all those surveyed stating categorically that the TRS would retain power in Telangana.

From daily wage workers to farmers, traders to real estate businessmen, and the general public, everyone agreed that with its initiatives in ensuring drinking water, 24-hour free power supply for farmers, quick disposal of industrial applications through systems such as the TS-bPASS, and, most importantly, maintenance of law and order, there was no visible reason to upset the apple cart by voting against the TRS.

Most respondents pointed out that the BJP candidates had lost their deposits in 105 seats in the 2018 elections, and the saffron party had done nothing for Telangana that could change the situation now. Furthermore, the people witnessed what the BJP did while in power in Karnataka and Maharashtra. The ‘hijab’ and ‘halal’ controversies, in particular, were said to have destroyed the much-talked-about Silicon Valley in Bengaluru, while BJP leaders, who were extracting 40% commissions for contract works, were also demanding bribes ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 55 per sft for each construction project in Karnataka, they said.

On the other hand, the surveys revealed not only continued support but also growing appreciation for the majority of the TRS Ministers

All surveys showed that KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao would receive 65 percent or more of the vote, while T Padma Rao came in third with a projected vote share of close to 60 percent.

Other Ministers’ projected vote share percentages were 50 or higher for Errabelli Dayakar Rao and 51-52 for Vemula Prashant Reddy. S Niranjan Reddy and V Srinivas Goud were expected to get 50% or more of the vote, while Puvvada Ajay Kumar would get 53%. Talasani Srinivas Yadav’s vote share was expected to be between 53% and 54%.

G Jagadish Reddy was another Minister who was expected to perform exceptionally well, with his majority expected to be around 20% larger. P Sabitha Indra Reddy was projected to receive 45-46 percent of the vote, while Ch Malla Reddy received 53-54 percent. Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was expected to receive 52-53 percent of the vote, while re-election would be a walk in the park for Minister Koppula Eshwar and MLAs Gampa Govardhan, Bigala Ganesh, and Hanmanth Shinde.

While the TRS is expected to win all ten seats in both Medak and Khammam, surveys indicate that TPCC president A Revanth Reddy may only receive 10% of the vote in Malkajgiri. While many respondents believed that voting for the BJP’s G Kishan Reddy was a mistake, many also believed that the party’s M Raghunandan Rao would lose this time.
