Telangana state secured fourth place in the country in human organ transplants during the year 2020.
Out of a total of 6,806 organ transplants that took place in the country, Delhi stood first with 1,114. While Kerala got second place with 876, followed by 562 in Haryana and 492 in Telangana. Of the total transplant surgeries, 44 percent were performed in the four states alone.
According to the latest report released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family welfare, the was a considerable decrease in organ transplants during 2020 due to the Covid-19 effect. While 12,746 organ transplant surgeries took place during 2019. only 6,806 transplants took place in 2020.

Though organ transplants were re-started from October last, the surgeries were not up to the mark. During 2019. as many as 874 transplants took place in Telangana state, and the number increased to 492 in 2020.
The report said that the availability of human organs is far less than the demand.
