TTDP demands white paper on loan waiver to farmers

Hyderabad: The Telangana TDP today demanded that the State government release a white paper immediately on loan waiver of farmers and distribution of agriculture equipments.

Speaking to the media at NTR trust bhavan here today, party senior leader and politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that the TRS government has neglected the agriculture sector. Generally it was a precedent of the State government to conduct annually State-level meetings with banks to decide quantum of loans to be given to agriculture and other sectors. But the TRS government has failed to conduct such meetings. Even credit plan for this year was not approved, he said, adding that if the Chief Minister, Agriculture and Finance ministers have no time for SLBC meeting, at least the Chief Secretary should convene a meeting of bankers, Ravula suggested.

Stating that some 4,000 farmers had committed suicide due to wrong agriculture policy of the TRS government, Ravula demanded an explanation from the government as to why passbooks of the famers are still under the custody of banks if farmers loans have been waived off as claimed by the government.

The TDP leader alleged that the funds allocated for agriculture sector has become an income source to TRS workers and its leaders. Though the government claimed that it has waived off of agriculture loans of farmers during its four-year regime, why passbooks of farmers were still lying in the banks, Ravula asked. He also said the government has taken a unilateral decision and issued GO no.144 repealing old system in transfer of police constables in district level and introduced a lottery system. The TDP leader demanded that the State government re-consider its decision and continue old system in transfer of police constables in the districts. (NSS)
