Two held for smuggling Paris cigarettes

Hyderabad: On Wednesday night, the sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, along with local police raided a godown in Old Feelkhana, Begum Bazar and arrested two brothers Nithin Ranka and Vipul Ranka, who were illegally procuring banned Paris cigarettes. The sleuths also seized 1,08,000 packets of cigarette packets worth about Rs 6.48 lakh and Cell phones.

Police said the accused Nithin Ranka, 38, and Vipul Ranka, 34, sons of Veerchandra Ranka, were running a general store styled as “D Rajesh & Co.” were fraudulently procuring local made Paris Cigarettes to avoid Customs Duty and also to avoid GST. The material was being received from Delhi, UP and Kolkata and supplying the same to the local traders in Hyderabad. Paris cigarettes were suspected to be coming from Bangladesh via Kolkata on train.

The accused along with seized material were handed over to SHO, Begumbazar PS, Hyderabad for further investigation. (NSS)
