Two TRS candidates file nominations for upcoming RS elections

According to the latest reports, D Damodar Rao, chairman and managing director of TPPL, and Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy, chairman and managing director of Hetero, have filed their nominations for the upcoming elections for two Rajya Sabha seats in the State.

At the State Legislative Assembly here, the two of them handed over their nomination papers to the returning officer on behalf of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday.

A number of its members congratulated the TRS candidates on the Assembly premises, including T Harish Rao, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Gangula Kamalakar, and Ch Malla Reddy, among others.

Parthasaradhi Reddy is the founder and CEO of Hetero Drugs, an Indian generic pharmaceutical company based in Hyderabad. The Hurun India Rich List 2021 lists him as one of the richest Indians. Parthasaradhi Reddy and the Hetero Labs family ranked 58 on the list of wealthiest Indians in 2021, down from 81 in 2020.

Damodar Rao is chairman and managing director of Telangana Publications Private Limited. The company runs the Telugu newspapers Namasthe Telangana and English newspapers Telangana Today, as well as the Telugu news channel T-News, which are considered mouthpieces of the ruling party.

In light of the expiration of the terms of Captain V Lakshmikantha Rao and D Srinivas, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that elections will be held to fill two Rajya Sabha seats.

TRS believes that it will win both seats following Vaddiraju Ravichandra’s uncontested election in the recent Rajya Sabha by-polls.

The nomination deadline is May 31. Nominations will be scrutinized on June 1, and candidates may withdraw their nominations no later than June 3. Voting will take place on June 10 between 9 am and 4 pm, followed by the counting of votes on the same day.
