UDID cards for Disabled issued with a Bundle of Errors

The wise man proverb that says “better late than never,” has turned completely the other way around for the disabled people in Telangana when they received UDID Cards this week after waiting for three long years only to find a bundle of errors in the IDs.

Complaints started pouring in soon after the disabled people got their long pending UDID Cards this week with erroneous mentioning of names, address, date of birth, SADARAM ID numbers and most importantly the percentage of the disability.

Later, many of the applicants found that the details they have provided three years back while filling the online applications – on the website of Department of Empowerment of Persons with disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment GOI, are not the same that appeared on the UDID cards they got this week.

“I got the card only Yesterday but with the error in date of birth. There were other members having complaints like errors in names, address, date of birth, SADARAM ID numbers and in the disability percentage. We don’t know from where they got the details of the candidates but one thing is obviously clear that most of the columns of information in UDID cards pertaining to the cardholder is erroneous and off the mark,” rued Afroz, President Telangana Disable Welfare Society.

“How sensitive the state and the central governments are about the wellbeing of the people with disabilities can be gauge through the initiatives and measures being rolling out by them with veracity to benefit or facilitate the targeted community and going by the way the Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards have been issued it appears that both of them are completely impassive and carrying just a cosmetic seniority to remain in power, Syed Shoukat Ali, a city based community activist.
