Unplanned road works at Shivrampally gave tough time to commuters

Akin to the most awaited Bahadurpura Bridge that completed earlier this year after ditching the deadline for more than thrice, the unplanned and snarl pace of works of another flyover from Zoo Park to Aram Ghar too giving a tough time to the commuters especially at Shivarampally in Rajendranagar.

Thanks to the GHMC for snail pace of road widening and deep excavation works without any proper planning forcing the commuters to suffer hard especially at the time when the monsoon showers sets into motion.

It is pertinent to mention here that, the GHMC planned a grade separator from Zoo Park to Aram Ghar on the busy National Highway-44 with a cost of Rs.636.8 crore under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) and the works were grounded in the month of September 2021. Interestingly, the bridge works were taken up even before completing the Bahadurpura Bridge, standing just a stone throw away from Zoo Park-Aram Ghar Bridge.

The 4.5 kilometre long grade separator will have 119 piers from Zoo Park to Aram Ghar stretch and was planned to complete by the year 2023. The six lane grade separator is said to have six down ramps of 180 meters and eight up ramps of 240 meters to help commuters move up and down before reaching their destination.

The GHMC initiated road widening works together with deep excavation especially at a narrow stretch of Shivarampally that left the area with several feet deep trenches wayside on the road making it completely inconvenient for the passengers to follow the course.

As the road widening works were taken up just before the monsoon season, most of the trenches and ditches on the unparalleled road were filled with rain water due to ongoing showers. The consistent showers from last week turned the drenches into cesspool alongside the road that resulted in traffic congestion on the stretch.

Now the supervising staff found pumping out the clogged water from trenches using water tankers buttressed with power pump motors at Shivrampally area. On the other hand, the passengers were found facing great difficulty while crossing the stretch on the busy National Highway-44.
