Untreated sealed records of Waqf Board likely to be destroyed by termites

Did the Telangana government seal the state’s Waqf Board record for its safety or is it an attempt to destroy it by exposing it to termites? Those who wish to ensure the safety of the record are concerned with this question.

To guarantee the safety of the records, it is essential to open the sealed record room and take anti-termite and pest control measures. However, Waqf Board officials ignore these measures.

Due to the state government’s sudden decision to seal the record room, no cleaning or antifungal operations have taken place in the past five years, which may cause irreparable damage to the property records.

As part of the state’s effort to prevent the manipulation of records, the Waqf Board record room was sealed in 2017. However, keeping paper records without taking anti-termite treatment, pest control, and fumigation is equivalent to putting these records at risk.

In the wake of the sealing of the Waqf Board’s record room, some Waqf officials claim that the Waqf’s properties are being appropriated.

Previously, whenever there was a complaint, the record was checked to prevent property manipulation. Due to the sealing of the record room, the checking facility is not available, causing the Waqf Board’s property to be misappropriated.

It is predicted that the majority of these records are older than 100 years, and if left untreated, they will be destroyed by termites.

Due to the state government declaring Waqf Board properties as government properties or belonging to the Revenue Department and Waqf Board, officials are having difficulties presenting records of these properties for the past five years.

To protect the Waqf lands spread throughout Telangana from encroachment, the state government has assured the High Court it was taking all appropriate and necessary precautions.
