In a major crackdown on corruption during police recruitment, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a government doctor, his wife who is a private medical practitioner, a pharmacist, and a driver for allegedly accepting bribes from police constable candidates by threatening to fail them during mandatory medical examinations.
The accused, identified as Dr. Hari Narayan Prabhakar, his wife Shivani Prabhakar, pharmacist Mathuresh, and driver Jaipal, were caught red-handed during a joint raid by the ACB and Highway Police Station personnel at a private hospital operated by Shivani in Mathura.
Dr. Prabhakar, who was posted as the Emergency Medical Officer at the district hospital, was part of the medical board responsible for assessing the fitness of police recruitment candidates. Authorities seized ₹1.3 lakh in cash and six mobile phones from his possession.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar stated that Shivani attempted to destroy evidence from the seized mobile phones, but the devices were recovered in time and sent for forensic examination.
According to the ACB, multiple complaints had been received alleging that the accused demanded bribes from aspirants and threatened them with disqualification if they failed to comply. During the raid, the accused were caught accepting bribe money from candidates.
All four individuals were presented before the court and have been remanded to judicial custody. Further investigations are underway to determine the total number of victims and the extent of money extorted.
Dr. Prabhakar has been removed from the police recruitment medical panel, which has since been reconstituted to ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.
