UP Police Announces No Opening of Shops Until Vaccinated; SSP Reveals “Overzealous Action”

A video from Uttar Pradesh recently went viral over social media regarding the vaccination order. The video showed a public announcement being made over the loudspeakers saying that it was now mandatory for the traders to get vaccinated to open their shops.

SSP Confirms Announcement to Only Be Advisory

While the announcement said that it was an order, Bulandshahr SSP Santosh Kumar confirmed that it was only an advisory and not an order. The announcement said that it was mandatory for everyone above the age of 45 years to take the Covid 19 vaccine to open their shops.

The announcement was made on Saturday and soon created a panic amongst the traders. Kumar later dismissed the announcement as the “overzealous action on the part of the policemen seen in the video”. He said that no such order has been issued and it should not have come across as an order either.

In the video, the policemen can be heard saying via their loudspeaker that people of 45 years of age and above who haven’t gotten the vaccination will not be allowed to open their shops.

Vaccinations For People Working in Public Space Should Get Vaccinated in Priority

Bulandshahr’s district magistrate Ravindra Kumar refrained from commenting on the police announcement. But he said that the people involved in the public dealing should get vaccinated as soon as possible for everyone else’s safety.

He explained that the people who venture in the public space for work like e-rickshaw drivers, shopkeepers and the vendors must remain protected. Their vaccination would ensure the rate of infections is brought down.

Officials claim that they are currently working towards a two-pronged strategy for vaccination. The district magistrate said that there are 98 Covid vaccination centres. They all equip more than 136 teams of healthcare workers who have been going to localities and villages for the Covid 19 vaccination drive.

He further said that to counter the rumours, they have taken steps like appealing to the religious heads to encourage people to come forward to get Covid 19 vaccinations.
