UP District Official Announces “No Vaccine, No Liquor” To Promote Covid 19 Vaccination

While the Covid 19 vaccination has been a huge part of the recent discussions amongst the citizens. People have had their own apprehensions about the same. To address the same and promote the Covid 19 vaccination drive, the Etawah administration in Uttar Pradesh found a “liquor slogan”.

Etawah Administration To Use Vaccination Certificate Before Liquor Purchase

A notice released in the Etawah District outside the liquor outlets read as “No liquor without vaccine certificate”. The notices were put up in Sefai under the direction of Etawah Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Hem Kumar Singh.

ADM Singh along with some other district police officials inspected liquor outlets in Sefai after the Aligarh hooch tragedy. In that incident, over 50 people died after drinking spurious alcohol over the weekend.

Singh had directed the liquor outlets to display the notices clearly. The notice says that alcohol will not be sold to anyone who cannot provide the vaccination certificate against Covid 19. Meanwhile, the owners of the liquor shops have also been issued warning against selling liquor to anyone who is yet to be vaccinated.

ADM’s orders come after the district magistrate of Firozabad said that the salaries of government employees would be put on hold unless they get vaccinated.

No Official Order on “No Vaccination, No Liquor”

In another update, Etawah District Excise official Kamal Kumar Shukla said that there is no official order to not sell liquor without a vaccination certificate. He said that the district administration’s effort to promote vaccination is encouraged. But there is no order mandating the same.

At the same time, Uttar Pradesh has already set a target of rolling out one crore of Covdi 19 vaccine doses by the end of June. To achieve this target, district officials across the state have been working towards novel ideas to promote vaccination amongst the people.
