UP police neutralised 168 criminals since 2017. Lose 13 policemen too

Claiming that the Yogi Adityanath led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh have zero tolerance towards criminals, the UP government has, so far, carried out 168 encounters while 4557 people were injured during the face-off in the state since 2017.  However, the zero tolerance campaign against the criminals cost the police too with 13 personnel losing their lives during the encounters.

A fresh encounter of two accused on Sunday is one among the list. The accused were gunned down after the assailants opened fire at a police officer Ajay Yadav and ran away with his service revolver earlier this month in Darekhu area of Varanasi.

It is said that the police teams have trapped the accused under “Operation Patal Lok” before gunning them down on Monday morning under Badagaon Police Station limits.

As per the reports, the Uttar Pradesh police carried out a total number of 168 encounters since March 20, 2017, the day when Yogi Adityanath first took charge as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Soon after taking charge, the saffron clad Chief Minister vowed to crush the crime and corruption with iron fist in the state with zero tolerance policy especially towards criminals. It is said the Chief Minister personally reviews the law and order situation from time to time and releases instructions accordingly.

The other states too were found lauding the measures taken by the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh. To receive more accolades, hashtag campaigns too were unfolded in support of Yogi Government and the state police.

Apart from neutralising the criminals, their properties too were razed to ground as collective punishment. On visits to various other states, Yogi found praising himself and urging the respective governments to take a tough stand against the criminals and pull-down their properties which were raised by using ill-gotten money using bulldozers. CM Yogi raised this issue again during an election hustings in Gujarat recently and urged the people to take primary note of the UP model of zero tolerance towards the criminals.

As per the report, most of the encounters were carried out in the Meerut Zone. According to ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar, a total number of 13 police personnel lost their lives so far during encounters with the criminals. Apart from this 1375 police personnel suffered bullet injuries during face-off with the criminals. On the other side a number of 22,234 people with criminal charges were apprehended out of which 4,557 suffered bullet injuries during encounters with the police. However, Meerut Zone tops the list with 3459 encounters wherein 64 criminals were gunned down.

The other areas with encounters and the casualties followed by Agra Zone with 2095 encounters and 19 casualties, Prayagraj Zone 436 encounters and 10 casualties, Bareilly Zone 1440 encounters and 7 casualties, Gorakhpur Zone 374 encounters and 7 casualties, Kanpur Zone 455 encounters and 7 casualties, Lucknow Zone 481 encounters and 11 casualties, Varanasi Zone 656 encounters and 19 casualties, Lucknow Commissionerate 81 encounters and 8 casualties, Gautam Budh Nagar Commissionerate 644 encounters and 8 casualties, Varanasi Commisionerate 105 encounters and 7 casualties, Kanpur Commissionerate 131 encounters and one casualty.
