Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University celebrated the Independence Day on Wednesday with pomp and gaiety by hoisting the national tricolour in Campus and taking pledge to eradicate the evils plaguing the society.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor, addressing the students after unfurling the tricolour said that self emancipation is the true freedom. We need to free ourselves from self-centric obsessions. He advised the students to think out of box and for others welfare.
After flag hoisting ceremony, cultural programmes were organized by Centre for Urdu Culture Studies with the technical support from Instructional Media Centre at DDE auditorium. Recording of the speech delivered by the first Prime Minister of Independent India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 15th August 1947 and letters of Martyrs of India were also presented.
Students presented songs in chorus — Saare Jahan se achcha Hindustan hamara; Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga, Hoti Hain Azad Quamein and Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna — to mark the occassion.
MANUU Campus wore a festive look with the draping of Administrative Building and numerous trees with national flag colours.
The cultural programme was put together by Mr. Anis Azami, Chief Consultant and Dr. Firoz Alam, Assistant Professor, Cultural Centre.
