Walkers’ Association protest demolished Parade Ground wall after BJP meeting

The Parade Grounds compound wall was demolished recently for the BJP public meeting. Over five days have passed, but the wall has not been rebuilt.

The Parade Ground Walkers’ Association, which has put up two banners at the demolished spots, has expressed its frustration with the issue by asking who would rebuild it. BJP or Secunderabad Cantonment Board?

The Parade Grounds compound wall was allegedly demolished in three places to create extra entry points into the historic grounds, which are managed by the Local Military Authority. Accessible to everyone and wide open.

A few people have even tagged union Minister G Kishan Reddy in response to photos of the banner shared on Twitter, saying that as a city MP and Cabinet Minister, he must answer to the citizens.

In one tweet, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar was urged to respond, in another, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was tagged, and in a third, BJP Telangana and national Twitter handles were tagged.

As PM Modi was the main attraction at the two-day National Executive Meeting of the BJP in the city, thousands of young people from rural areas turned out for the public meeting held at Parade Grounds.

Leaders of the Telangana state BJP unit were successful in mobilizing a large crowd to attend the public meeting. In the past, BJP leaders relied on the leadership of Greater Hyderabad to draw crowds to public meetings.

The history behind Parade Grounds

Since the late 1950s, the Parade Grounds have hosted cricket matches, with several cricketers from the city, including VVS Laxman, having played on the pitch, said to be quite challenging.

In 2017 it was renamed General KV Krishna Rao Parade Ground in honor of the former Chief of Army Staff, who made Secunderabad his home after retirement and passed away in 2016.
