Water Bodies Overflow as Heavy Rains Hit Many Parts of Telangana

Heavy rains hit many parts of the state on Thursday, submerging some low-lying areas and disrupting everyday life. Streams and rivulets were overflowing and obstructing traffic in many places.

Gachibowli, Qutbullapur, Serilingampally, RC Puram, Kapra, Malkajgiri, and other areas in Hyderabad received moderate to heavy rainfall. Rainwater entered houses in a few areas of Mahabubnagar and Vikarabad, forcing many residents to relocate to safer areas.

Incessant rains have been lashing Mahabubnagar town since Wednesday, and as rains continued on Thursday, many houses in low-lying areas such as Ramaiah Bowli, BK Reddy Colony, and Shiva Shakti Nagar were under sheets of water.

After inspecting the areas, Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud urged residents to relocate to rehabilitation centers set up in private function halls and other locations. Other necessities, besides food, would be provided to residents at the centers, he said.

A few unauthorized structures were built on nalas, obstructing the flow of water. After the rains stop, an action plan will be developed to widen the nalas, and the work will be completed as soon as possible, the Minister assured the residents.

A couple had a close save in Nagaram village, Vikarabad, when their car was washed away by strong currents while crossing the Nagaram vagu (stream).

Despite the heavy flow of water, the car driver drove from Nagaram to Dornala but lost control, according to reports. The car became stuck in a tree, and the couple escaped by taking shelter atop the tree for a few hours. Locals immediately notified police and revenue officials, who were able to rescue the couple and pull their car out of the stream.

Erstwhile districts of Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Khammam, and a few others experienced heavy rainfall. The rains disrupted the power supply and inundated low-lying areas, disrupting everyday life.

The highest rainfall was recorded at Amangal in Rangareddy, with 122.3 mm, followed by 117 mm at Chukkapur in the district. Similarly, Bollampalle in Nagarkurnool received 90.3 mm of rain, while Gundmal in Narayanpet received 87.3 mm.
