We owe a great debt to police martyrs: Governor

Hyderabad : Stressing that the police personnel must have commitment, dedication, patience and honesty while discharging their legitimate duties, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States E.S.L. Narasimhan today exhorted people to lend cooperation to the policemen for maintenance of peace and law and order in the society.

Participating as the chief guest at the Goshamahal Police Grounds on the occasion of Commemoration Day on Sunday, the Governor said paid homage to the martyred police personnel at the martyrs’ memorial. Addressing the gathering, the Governor said, “We cannot bring back police personnel who laid down their lives while discharging their duties of protecting the society …..But we should always remember their supreme sacrifices”. He also said the Police department would be behind the kin of the martyred police personnel. He further said, “We talk of PPP mode in all sectors, but it is Police Public Participation that is more necessary in the society today. October 21, every year is observed as the Police Commemoration Day as it is the day of remembrance of those great and selfless souls, who laid down their lives so that we can live in peace”, he pointed out.

The Governor said 414 police personnel have sacrificed their lives, including two from Telangana in the previous year. He called upon the people to understand the valour of a policeman, who does not celebrate festivals like Dasara, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, as he is on the streets on those days. The Governor recalled an incident during his tenure in Chattisgargh, where women used to tell ‘Oh Jaane wale, ho sake to lautke aana’ to their spouses in the police force, who used to go in search of Maoists as such was the situation there.

The Governor said the society is at crossroads now with anti-national elements, terrorists and others, who are trying to dismember the country and it is there that these policemen stand against destruction of peace and tranquility. He said the policemen are the wall of peace, wall of courage, wall of valour and wall of sacrifice. Unity and integrity is under threat and if today the country is in one piece, we owe a great debt to them and there is no compensation to a human life, said the Governor.

DGP pays homage to police martyrs

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy said Bopannapalli Susheel, Greyhounds commando and R. Lakpati, Octopus commando from the State police laid down their lives during the year in the line of duty. The Police Department was striving for policing with human touch by streamlining people, processes and technology initiatives, he said.

The parade was commanded by S. Sridhar Raju, Assistant Commandant, 15th  Bn., TSSP of Sathupally, Khammam District and participating contingents included 3rd  Bn , 8th  Bn, SAR CPL, Amberpet, Rachakonda Commissionerate, Hyderabad CAR, Hyderabad City Civil Police, Hyderabad City Traffic Police, Mounted Police and Brass band from 1st, 10th and 13th battalion and also from CAR, SAR.CPL, Amberpet.
