Will not let anyone die if Delhi gets 700 tonnes oxygen”- Arvind Kejriwal

The hundreds of deaths being reported daily from the national capital will not be witnessed once the city starts receiving 700 tonnes of oxygen from the Centre, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today. The statement was made amid the devasting condition of Delhi as the city is drowning in covid cases with thousands of fresh infections and deaths every day.

The CM assured that his government will “not let anyone die” if they are provided with enough capacity of the essential gas. At a press briefing, Mr Kejriwal said, “If we get an adequate supply of oxygen – 700 tonnes – we will be able to set up 9,000-9,500 beds in Delhi. We will be able to create oxygen beds. I assure you that we will not let anyone die to a shortage of oxygen in Delhi.”

As per the Centre, Delhi was receiving around 500 tonnes of oxygen while it said yesterday that tankers with more volume of the gas are in transit to be allocated to all states. With help pouring in from many countries around the world, it hasn’t yet been found how and where the resources are stuck as they haven’t reached the needy states and people till now.

The covid pandemic has brought heavy criticism for the Centre as citizens are pushing it into the dock to answer questions over its inability to control the situation and lack of interest to help people in these difficult times with resources that are extremely essential for survival right now.

Leaving states and territories alike to fend for themselves, the PM too spoke about taking measures and not regarding the oxygen crisis existing across the nation. Delhi is facing its worst since the pandemic began as thousands are dying due to the shortage of oxygen.

The dire situation of India has also attracted global attention with several international celebrities too setting up donation drives for the country.

On the lack of enough oxygen front, Delhi said it is receiving hardly half of what it has been allotted officially as other states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are being prioritized with their BJP governments.
