“Withdrawing farm laws will show Centre’s large-heartedness”- Shiv Sena

While the nation’s farmers continue to lead their protest against the contentious farm laws, Shiv Sena released a statement on Monday speaking about how the withdrawing of the laws by the Central government can in a way prove its “large-heartedness” to the citizens.

“Saamana”, a mouthpiece of Maharashtra’s ruling party held the Centre guilty for further “deteriorating” the situation by not allowing them to protest in peace as it is the constitutional right of the farmers to do so.

“They are protesting near Delhi with that right. The government, too, has no reason to feel low about withdrawing the farm laws, which they (farmers) find tyrannical. Rather it (withdrawing the laws) will be large-heartedness,” it said.

While thousands of farmers from around the regions of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and others are here in Delhi to protest at the Punjab-Delhi border for voicing against the farm laws apparently brought up for the “benefit” of them as told by the Prime Minister of India, the Union government’s stance to not repeal the laws is taking a toll on the government itself as none of the discussions with the farmers’ body representatives are arriving at a mutual decision.

As each of the 5 rounds of talks reached a deadlock, farmers have called for a “Bharat Bandh” on Tuesday in view of their demands not being heard and dealt positively by the government.

Shiv Sena’s editorial argued that the situation could be improved if the government had “shown the courtesy” of conducting meetings regarding the problem at hand with Prakash Singh Badal (of the Shiromani Akali Dal) and (NCP chief) Sharad Pawar, both leaders of the farmers’ clan, at a time most crucial.

Calling it the results of the Centre’s ill actions, it claimed, “Today, the situation is worsening. These are the fruits of the government’s deeds.”

“Saamana” went on saying that the government has people in its kitty who can “buy elections” for securing a win but do not own the minds of people who can work towards easing out the situation by dealing with the farmers in a better way to arrive at a conclusion.

It stated that if late BJP leaders like Arun Jaitley, Pramod Mahajan and Sushma Swaraj were alive today, the Centre could have solved the issue much earlier as they had the capabilities of crossing all deadlocks.

“But today, there is not a single such face in the government. Hence, five-five rounds of discussions (with farmers) have failed,” the editorial said.

The Shiv Sena mouthpiece concluded with its vote in the farmers’ favour by saying that the if the farm laws do get into practice and are implemented, the hard-earned land of the people who feed the country will fall in into the hands of industrialists as the farmers claim, making it extremely difficult to earn a living.

The 5th discussion of Saturday between the Centre and farmers did not go well again even after hours of talks. While the government offered to amend the laws, farmers stated that they want nothing but the complete removal of the 3 laws.
