Work-from-home job opportunities surge in pandemic- Report

With the pandemic in full swing and taking its ground on the land restricting people from attaining normalcy in their lives, work-from-home job opportunities are increasing more than ever.

The last few months spent in the lockdown and the unlock programs have seen recruiters hiring professionals and other individuals for Work-from-home job. This has allowed people to work remotely at the comfort of their homes, being able to maintain the balance between their personal and professional lives. Commute time has also been saved as people used to often travel miles to reach their offices, often from one part of the city to another.

As compared to the pre-COVID times when the regular in-office jobs prevailed, work-from-home jobs have seen a three-fold rise, according to a report released on August 25th.

Remote jobs have gained the momentum with more employers hiring people for work-from-home positions given the crisis and risks involved in attending the physical offices.

The leading job portal, Naukri.com, issued a report where it mentioned the jump in these opportunities and companies opting for them. It said, “Hiring for remote jobs too has seen robust growth and has increased by three times as compared to pre-COVID levels this year.”

The contribution of home-based job roles has witnessed a four-fold rise as compared to the percentages of 2019. This trend in 2020 resulted due to the pandemic and its restrictions.

Naukri.com also reported that one of the top three most searched keywords by job-seekers during the past five months was ‘Work-From-Home’. This speaks volumes about the choice of the individuals too while trying to land at a job.

Speaking about it further, PawanGoyal, Chief Business Officer of Naukri.com said, “It’s also interesting to note that traditional, office-based or on-ground roles such as sales/ business development and customer care agents are now being offered with WFH options.”

A major chunk of these work-from-home jobs or roughly half of them are offered from the sector of BPO/ITES that has rocketed the growth of the IT industry. The next quarter of jobs are being presented by the IT/software, education/teaching, and internet/e-commerce arenas.

“The WFH jobs have also emerged in unlikely sectors such as publishing, BFSI, and education/teaching that have conventionally required the physical presence of the employee. However, the most impacted industries like travel and staffing continue to decline in hiring even in remote jobs,” the report said.

“The WFH trend was also a recurring topic discussed in webinars, and saw many queries directed to industry experts from jobseekers on remote working jobs,” the report added.

Even as millions of people have lost their jobs worldwide, work-from-home opportunities are likely to act as the light at the end of a dark tunnel for job-seekers and individuals struggling to get employed.
