“Would be married to girlfriend Alia by now if pandemic hadn’t hit”- Ranbir Kapoor

Putting an end to speculations and in a way proving rumors to be true, the Kapoor clan’s most successful actor of this generation, Ranbir Kapoor said that his wedding with actress Alia Bhatt would be solemnized by now if the pandemic hadn’t created turmoil.

In an interview with film critic Rajeev Masand, the “Sanju” actor spilled the beans on how he and Alia Bhatt spent their time during the lockdown. The couple has been staying together in their Mumbai home since the virus hit the world.

Calling Alia as his “girlfriend” for the first time, Ranbir evidently remained on top of the trending charts on Thursday, thanks to his acceptance of the actress as his future wife with plans of getting married soon.

When the critic questioned the actor regarding his wedding, the actor said, “It would have already been sealed if the pandemic hadn’t hit our lives. But I don’t want to jinx it by saying anything. I want to tick mark that goal soon in my life.”

Previously in February, an article by Rajeev Masand mentioned the wedding date of Ranbir-Alia to be December 4th. However, the fire was put out after the pandemic twisted the plans of everyone around the world. However, this interview was the first time either of the actors got vocal about their marriage plans as neither had even hinted at it during their public statements, though their actions said it all.

When asked about the way he spent his time with girlfriend Alia in their Mumbai home in the lockdown, Ranbir went on to call the actress an “overachiever” as she apparently learned a dozen things, right from an instrument playing to film writing. “You know, my girlfriend Alia is a bit of an overachiever and she took every class there is from guitar to screenwriting,” he said while adding, “I always feel like an underachiever next to her.”

During the same conversation, he also spoke about the death of his father Rishi Kapoor who passed away in 2020’s April while getting treated for cancer. Ranbir mentioned how he directed his focus on his career and personal life during tough times.

Alia Bhatt was repeatedly seen with the actor and his family when the elder Kapoor died. During the funeral too, she was seen video calling Riddhima Kapoor, Ranbir’s sister who couldn’t be at the final rites ceremony due to the travel restrictions imposed in the country due to the coronavirus.

Since then, the actress seemed to have grown a deeper bond with the Kapoor family. She was also seen alongside Ranbir and his mother Neetu Kapoor at their cousin’s wedding reception.

The couple first grabbed attention in 2018 when they made a public appearance following Ranbir’s sudden breakup with actress Katrina Kaif, who shared a close relationship with Alia Bhatt. The latter also publicly shared her feelings for Ranbir during an awards ceremony last year.

Alia and Ranbir were seen at the Mumbai airport earlier this month, allegedly to board the flight to Goa for a vacation. However, others say that they were off to the beach city to shoot for their upcoming movie, Brahmastra directed by Ranbir’s best friend, Ayan Mukherjee. Ayan had also directed ‘Wake Up Sid’, which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma.
