“You Are Effectively Postponing Everything”; SC Pushes Centre To Allow Girls For Military College Exam

The Supreme Court recently pushed the Central Government to admit women to the National Defence Academy (NDA). Now the SC has directed the government to make appropriate arrangements for the girls to enter into the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC). They have asked the government to allow the girls to take the exam scheduled on December 18, 2021.

Additional Solicitor General Urges SC To Allow The Changes For 2023

As per the latest reports, a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and also comprising Justice M.M Sundresh, asked the government to publish the modified advertisement where they would allow the girls to sit for the exam as well.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed the bench that the arrangements for the exam on December 18, 2021 are already at an advanced stage. She urged the court to allow the induction of the girls into the RIMC and the Rashtriya Military School from the term beginning from January 2023.

However, the bench refused to accept the case and said that six months time was given earlier and was sufficient to make preparation to allow the girls to sit for the session starting in June 2022.

The bench told Bhati, “You are effectively postponing everything, why do you want to postpone for a year?”

Bhati responded that October 30, 2021 was the last date for the submission of applications for the December exam. To this, Justice Kaul said that they acknowledge the difficulties.

“Just take one step more”, said Justice Kaul.

Next Hearing Scheduled For January Next Year

The bench noted that in their order previously, they had informed the authorities must modify the preparatory work to be done for December 18 examination. This included to permit the girls to take the exam.

The supreme court has for now scheduled the next hearing in January 2022 along with the issues connected with the induction of women in NDA.
